Who We Are
The Elsmere
Church of Christ is a ‘traditional New Testament church’ in
mission, doctrine and behavior. Our roots in this country are
found in the 19th Century “Restoration Movement” whose purpose
was to restore Christianity and the Church to what it was in the
beginning in the 1st Century.
The following
is presented to let you know what to expect when you visit us.
Our Worship is Simple and
Devout
Our services
are conducted in a quiet, worshipful atmosphere. They are
designed to draw the worshipers closer to God and to provide
enduring Spiritual Strength. Our worship consists only of those
elements which the New Testament reveals as having been used as
worship by the church in the days of the apostles. We sing and
pray, partake of the Lord's Supper (Communion), have the Word of
God preached for our instruction, and give of our means for the
spreading of the Gospel, and caring for others. In all of this
we seek to maintain the attitude which Christ taught when He
said: "God is a Spirit, and they that worship Him must worship
in Spirit and Truth." (John 4:24)
Our Authority Is The Bible
Alone
Our source of
authority is that which is found only in the inspired
Scripture. Therefore, we seek to be governed in all that we do
by God's Holy Bible. Since the Scriptures are sufficient for
our every need (II Timothy 3:16-17), our preaching and teaching
contains only that which is commanded in the Bible.
Our People Are Christians
Only
The division
in the religious world today is far different from the unity
enjoyed by the original Christians, before traditions and
distinctive names divided them. Believing such division to be
contrary to the Scriptures, we have no denominational
organization, name, doctrine or creed. Following the teachings
of Christ and His apostles, individually we are known as
Christians, collectively as the Church of Christ.
In His Name
We offer, to
all that are willing, a personal opportunity to work in our
ministries to provide help for the people of our community and
people throughout the world. Our programs are designed to
satisfy both material and spiritual needs.
You Will Find A Friendly
Spirit
We believe
that friendliness is a natural attitude among people who truly
love God. Our visitors, who always receive a warm welcome,
appreciate the courtesy and cordiality of the Christians at
Elsmere. We truly hope you will accept our invitation to meet
with us soon. You will benefit by coming.
Where We Meet
We worship, study and fellowship in a
beautiful stained glass building at 124 Carlisle Ave in Elsmere
Kentucky (off Dixie Highway, first street south of Garvey on
